TAKANEN2013CONTRACOMPARISON - Enhanance the contrast between the hemispheres

Usage

[activMap gainMtrx]= takanen2013contracomparison(thetaL,thetaR,levels,energyL,energyR,fs,printFigs);

Input parameters

theraL "where" cue of the left hemisphere
thetaR "where" cue of the right hemisphere
levels vector specifying the left/right location
energyL "what" cue of the left hemisphere
energyR "what" cue of the right hemisphere
fs sampling rate
printFigs boolean value describing whether the computations are illustrated or not

Output parameters

activMap Matrix that describes in which of the six frequency ranges there is activation on a given location on map at a specific time instant
gainMtrx Matrix that describes the signal level dependent gains for the different activation values on the activity map

Description

The contralateral comparison is used to control the strengths of the images on the binaural activity map. More specifically, the where cues define positions of the images and an inhibitory coefficient is used to reduce the strength of the image more closer to the center. Additionally, inherent delays are introduced to the inhibition to emulate the binaural adaptation found in the IC (McAlpine et. al. 2000).
